Surrattsville High School Student Tekau Rasayon Collapses

CLINTON, Md. (WUSA) – A 17-year-old senior at Surrattsville High School in Clinton collapsed while jogging on the track during phys ed class on Wednesday, and died after being taken to the hospital, Prince George’s County Public Schools announced in a statement.

The student, Tekau Rasayon, was taken by ambulance to Southern Maryland Hospital where she was pronounced dead. No details on the cause of death are available.

A statement was released by Prince George’s County Public Schools (PGCPS) Communications Officer Briant Coleman:

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Tekau Rasayon, a 17-year-old senior at Surrattsville High School in Clinton. Tekau collapsed while jogging on the track during physical education class on Wednesday, March 28. The school nurse and an ambulance were called to the scene. Tekau was transported by ambulance to Southern Maryland Hospital with her mother. She was later pronounced dead. On behalf of the Prince George’s County Public Schools community, I would like to extend my heartfelt sympathies to her family, teachers, classmates and friends. Counselors will be available at Surrattsville this week to offer support services.
