Stabbing at Northwood High School
Police in Montgomery County are investigating an apparent stabbing at a Silver Spring high school Monday.
According to Captain Paul Starks, a male student suffered a “puncture wound” with an unknown weapon around 11 a.m. at Northwood High School.
Starks said the incident happened in the school cafeteria.
Montgomery County Public Schools spokesman Dana Tofig confirmed that there was an incident during lunch on school property but said it did not happen inside the school.
The student was taken to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries as a precaution, police and school officials said.
Investigators have not yet identified a suspect.
Police initially set up a perimeter around the school, but broke it before noon. School has not been dismissed.
This is at least the second stabbing at Northwood within the last year. A 17-year-old girl was arrested in December 2011 for stabbing another teen girl during a fight following a boys’ basketball game.
