RG3′s First Preseason Game

Washington Redskins v Buffalo Bills

As you know, last night was the first week for preseason football and we saw a lot of action. From RG3 to Peyton Manning NFL fans finally get a glimpse of the new faces in new uniforms. Last night everyone in our area, Redskins fan or not, we’re anxiously anticipating Robert Griffin III’s debut. Playing only three series, we learned a little about what we can expect from the Heisman Trophy Winner. Here’s three main points:

  1. Griffin’s versatility throwing the ball can be a problem for opposing teams. Throwing 4-6 for 70 yards, TD isn’t really the type of night where you can assess a QB’s game, but Griffin’s night was different. Last night you saw passes from Griffin that were side-armed, quick finger tip passes, and the traditional throwing motion. He accurately throws the ball according to the defenses’ rush. The Bills defense, which ranked at the bottom of the NFL in every category last season, hardly laid a finger on Griffin, but the rush was there.
  2. Expect a PASSER, not a Runner. Last night you saw Griffin strictly in the pocket. He stared off linebackers and froze safeties instead of tucking the pigskin. Don’t know about everyone else, but we only need one Michael Vick in the NFC East.
  3. He’s confident. Robert Griffin looked sharp, comfortable and confident against the Bills last night. So comfortable, in a post game interview, Griffin said, “Practice is a lot harder then games.” Really? It’s only been one preseason game. His opinion may change after let’s say the third preseason game, but as Skins fans, we love the confidence, something Redskins fans and players haven’t had in recent years.

With that being said, we have great confidence in this upcoming season. Championship? Maybe not. Playoffs? Maybe. Or maybe we’re dreaming. But when’s the last time we had the confidence to actually dream about championships and the playoffs? We’ll see if dreams really come true Sept. 9th against the Saints.
