Hurricane Sandy Raises The Dead
In an eerie Halloween scene in Maryland, Hurricane Sandy literally raised the dead in its destructive wake, lifting a pair of coffins once buried six feet underground to the surface during flooding.
The coffins became dislodged as water saturated the cemetery in Crisfield, an Eastern Shore town badly battered in the storm. One silver and one bronze casket ascended from the ground. Officials believe bore could peek through.
Though the region is accustomed to strong storms, Crisfield residents were rocked by the ferocity of Sandy, which left water levels rising through Tuesday. As some flood waters receded, the coffins appeared.
Scores of residents were trapped in their homes and much of the town lost power. The public water system failed, according to the Daily Times.
