USA Basketball announced on Friday that men’s National Team will hold training camps in four cities, including Washington, in preparation for the 2012 Olympics. The American men will train in the District from July 13-15 and will be joined by the women’s National Team for a double-header against Brazil on July 16 at Verizon Center. Ticket details will be available at a later date.

Team USA will open camp in Las Vegas in July 6 and play the Dominican Republic at Thomas & Mack Center on July 12. After playing at Verizon Center, the team will travel to Manchester, England, and will be joined again by the women’s team for another doubleheader against Olympic host Great Britain at Manchester Arena. And, in honor of the 20th anniversary of the original Dream Team, the squad will conclude its training in Barcelona and play Argentina on July 22 and 2008 Olympic silver medallist Spain on July 24 at Palau Sant Jordi.

“We have again scheduled an extremely challenging lineup of exhibition opponents for our USA Men’s National Team. In addition to playing world powers Spain and Argentina, the team will also face FIBA Americas powers Brazil and the Dominican Republic. Add in what I’m sure will be a very competitive game in Manchester versus Great Britain, and we have an exciting tour schedule we believe will help get our team as best prepared as possible for the summer,” Jerry Colangelo, USA Basketball chairman and national team managing director, said in a statement.

Colangelo has invited 20 players to try out for the 12-man team, which has won gold at the 2008 Olympics and 2010 World Championship. Eight Olympians (LeBron James, Kobe Bryant, Carmelo Anthony, Dwyane Wade, Chris Bosh, Chris Paul, Dwight Howard and Deron Williams) and 10 members of the World Championship team (Kevin Durant, Derrick Rose, Russell Westbrook, Kevin Love, Andre Iguodala, Rudy Gay, Lamar Odom, Tyson Chandler, Chauncey Billups and Eric Gordon) were included, with Blake Griffin and LaMarcus Aldridge also an opportunity. Duke Coach Mike Krzyzewski will coach Team USA once again.

“This tour will be a very challenging schedule of five exhibition games that will each be played in outstanding environments and will be memorable for all basketball fans. The team’s training and these games will be absolutely critical in our preparation and we know that each of the teams will pose significant and unique challenges,” Krzyzewski said. – Washington Post
